Depression: More Than Just Feeling Sad

by Maya Eya

Depression is not just “feeling sad”. It’s heavier. It stays longer. And sometimes you don’t even know why you feel like this. You can have normal life, everything looks fine… but inside feels empty or tired.

When it’s more than just a bad day

Bad days happen. That’s normal. But if this feeling stays for weeks, or keeps coming back again and again… then it’s something more.

You might feel like:

• no energy
• no interest in things you liked before
• overthinking all the time
• or just… nothing

If this feels familiar, don’t ignore it.

You don’t need to wait

You don’t need to be “bad enough” to ask for help. If something feels off — that’s already enough.

About quiet moments

Sometimes the worst part is silence. No noise. No distractions. Just your thoughts. It can feel uncomfortable. But small quiet moments can also help you understand yourself a bit more. Just don’t stay there too long.

Simple things that can help a little

Not big changes. Just small things.

1. Talk to someone. You don’t need perfect words. Just say something.

2. Move your body. Even small walk. It helps more than staying in bed all day.

3. Keep simple routine. Wake up, eat, sleep around same time. It gives a bit of stability.

4. Don’t expect too much from yourself. Small steps are enough.

5. Sleep matters. Try not too little, not too much.

6. Be careful with alcohol. It can feel like helping, but later makes it worse.

7. Get real help if needed. Therapy, doctor — it’s okay. Nothing wrong with that.

One thing to remember. Depression can lie to you. It tells you nothing will change. But that’s not true. In the end this is not who you are. It is just something you’re going through. Start small. That’s enough 🤍
